Garland Animal Services says THANK YOU GARLAND!
Garland, Texas – November 3, 2008 -- The response to last week’s announcement that the City of Garland Animal Services Department was in need of pet food donations was well beyond expectations. In less than three days, the City animal shelter received approximately 15,000 pounds of dog and cat food and more than $6,000. This represents approximately one year’s worth of food plus enough money to purchase much more. “We have literally run out of storage space at the Shelter. Garland’s citizens, local businesses, and others have given the Shelter an overwhelming response to the request for help,” says Jason Chessher, Garland’s Deputy Director of Health. Animal Services staff members are contacting other local shelters to distribute excess food donations to those organizations in need. Citizens and businesses are still welcome to donate but are encouraged to consider a monetary donation or delaying their food donation for a few months. Since the need for animal food is continuous, monetary donations allow for food purchases as supplies run low. Remember that all donations, including food, money, or other pet care items are always used exclusively for the care of animals.
Thanks again, Garland. We knew we could count on you! Other ways to help Garland Animal Services include registering your pet so it can be quickly returned to you should it escape or become lost. Citizens should also visit the Garland Animal Shelter at 600 Tower Drive when considering adding a new pet to your family. Adoption fees are very reasonable and a variety of animals are always available.
